10th Picnic to Nanjunkodu, Shivasamudram Waterfalls, etc on 04-05-2014 [Sunday]

* 04:30 am [04-05-2014 Sun] – We begin our 10th Pinic, with our friends Bharathi, Chithambaram,Palanisamy [Sakthi] Anna, Pojaraj, Shampu, Senthil [Eswaran], Vijian and Driver anna.
* 04:45 am – Pooja @ Puthumariamman Kovil [Vijian], Kasiplayam, Gobichettipalayam
* 05:45 am – Pooja @ Bannari Amman Kovil [Vijian], Bannari, Sathiytamangalam
* 07:00 am – Morning refreshment @ Near Chamraj nagar
* 07:40 – 08:15 am – Nanjankodu Kabila river water bath
* 08:30 – 10:30 am – Srikanteshwara Dharsanam
“Nanjundeshwara (Srikanteshwara) Temple, Nanjangud is situated on right banks of Kapila (Kabini) River and is one of the oldest temples in India. The Shiva Linga in the temple is believed to be installed by the sage Gauthama who had stayed here for some time. This Shiva Linga was also worshiped by Parashurama when he had stayed for some time in this town on his journey to get cleansed from the sin of beheading his mother.

* 11:30 am – 12:15 pm – Chennakesava Temple, Somanathapura
The Chennakesava Temple (Kannada: ಶ್ರೀ ಚೆನ್ನಕೇಶವ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ) (also spelt Chennakeshava) located at Somanathapura is one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture. The temple was built by Soma, a Dandanayaka (lit, “commander”) in 1268 C.E. under Hoysala king Narasimha III, when the Hoysala Empire was the major power in South India.

* 02:00 – 04:00 pm – Talakad The 10th century Pataleshvara temple, River, etc.,
Talakad or Talakadu is a desert-like town on the left bank of the Kaveri river at a spot where the river makes a sharp bend. It is 45 km from Mysore and 133 km from Bangalore in Karnataka, India. A historic site, Talakadu once had over 30 temples, most of which lay buried in sand. The extant goup of temples is a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus. Here the eastward flowing Kaveri river changes course as the sand on its banks spreads over a wide area.
* 05:15 – 06:15 pm – Shivanasamudra Falls [Bharachukki.]
The Shivanasamudra Falls is on the Kaveri River after the river has wound its way through the rocks and ravines of the Deccan Plateau and drops off to form waterfalls. The island town of Shivanasamudra divides the river into twin waterfalls. This creates the fourth largest island in the rivers course. A group of ancient temples are located here and there likely was a village.
